They scored in transition, converted mid-range jump shots, swished 3-pointers and impressively executed their halfcourt offense, then played suffocating man-to-man defense on the other end of the court. Indeed, Brunswick School’s varsity basketball team could do no wrong against King School in the FAA Tournament final on Feb. 28th at Dann Gymnasium and as a result, the title that eluded the Bruins the past two seasons is now in their possession.

Gaining momentum midway through the first half, before taking total control in the second half, top-seeded Brunswick quickly built a commanding lead and never looked back, rolling to a resounding 90-61 win over second-seeded King School in the championship game of the FAA Basketball Tournament, before a jam-packed house, featuring large student cheering sections from both teams.

Senior guard Rhaki Lum was brilliant in his final game as a Bruin, scoring a game-high 23 points. Junior guard Brandon Jean scored 13 points, including two 3-pointers, while senior forward Connor Robinson totaled 13 points for the Bruins, who finished their 2025-2026 season with a seven-game winning streak and the FAA Tournament title.

Brunswick capped the season with a perfect 11-0 record in the FAA and an overall mark of 16-9. The Bruins also avenged their loss to King in the 2025 FAA Tournament final.

“It feels great, we fell short last year, so making it happen this year feels great,” said Lum, a captain, who helped set the tone of the game by scoring 15 first-half points. “We worked for it since the last game last year, so it was like a dream come true.”

Junior guard Bryan Camacho and sophomore guard Jayden Fisher scored 11 points apiece for the Bruins, who received eight points from junior guard Mitch DeBernardo. Brunswick entered halftime ahead, 39-22, before going on a significant, game-sealing run early in the second half.

“We’ve been talking about starting games hot,” said Robinson, who ignited the Bruins with 11 second-half points. “We talked about knock out runs and going on short little 6-0, 8-0 runs where we slowly build up a lead and take it from there. We did it in the first half and the second half, we just executed our offense.”

AJ Trimboli scored 16 points and Ryan Trimboli had 14 points for the Vikings, who got nine points apiece from Jonovan Bracey and Krys Gaston. Brunswick led early in the first half, 7-4, on a 3-pointer by Jean, then King took a 12-9 lead with 10:25 remaining in the first half. Lum gave the hosts the lead for good at 16-14 by driving hard to the basket for a layup at the 8:25 mark of the opening half and Brunswick played from in front for good.

Junior forward Kingston Pitt scored from the low post, Lum came off a pick and nailed a 3-point shot and Jean converted a 3-pointer from the top of the key, giving the Bruins a 27-18 advantage. Baskets from Lum, Camacho and Robinson put the Vikings in a 39-22 hole at halftime.

“We wanted to come out hitting first, put a lot of points on the board, get a lot of stops,” Jean said. “They have a lot of shooters on their team, so we wanted to make sure we were guarding them right, coming over the screens.”

Shooting a high percentage from the floor, the Bruins scored 51 second-half points, opening a 20-point plus lead less than six minutes into the second half.

“Out of halftime we wanted to make sure we hit them first again and we just set the tone after that,” Jean noted. “We were getting a lot of good looks and we were capitalizing off the good looks. We work on them a lot in practice, a lot of open shots, so we just executed.”

Defensively, ‘Wick was sound throughout while playing its tough man-to-man.

“All of that comes from our defense,” Lum said of the team’s success offensively. “The past couple of days we’ve been emphasizing our defensive pressure and how we want to guard them. That was the most important thing. That’s what led to our great offense.”

The Bruins received points from 10 players, with junior guard Caden Tate chipping in five points, senior guard Jaylen Johnson scoring three points and Gabe Dunleavy and Pitt each getting two points.

“We do a good job of sharing the ball and getting each other the ball in spots where we’re good,” Robinson said. “We’ve been working together since September, so we have good chemistry.”

Brunswick advanced to the FAA Tournament final by defeating neighborhood rival Greenwich Country Day School in overtime, 72-60, in the semifinals. The Bruins forced overtime by scoring with two seconds remaining in regulation.

The Bruins have now won nine FAA Tournament championships and 13 FAA regular season titles since 2000.

“We had a very emotional game two days ago,” Brunswick coach Nate Jean-Baptiste said, referring to his squad’s semifinal-round matchup against Greenwich Country Day. “For us to pull it out, it’s impressive for them to come back after such an emotional game. It’s hard to top that.”

Jean-Baptiste concluded his second season at the helm and a campaign he’ll surely remember.

“It’s unreal, I think it comes back to the work we put in and the togetherness of the team,” Jean-Baptiste said. “We went through so much this year that it’s hard to put into words.”
