After earning the title as FAA regular season champions due to an outstanding regular season, Greenwich Country Day School’s boys hockey team finished its 2025-2026 campaign with another title – the FAA Tournament championship.
Greenwich Country Day secured its first-ever Fairfield Athletic Association double championship, capturing both the FAA regular season championship and the FAA Tournament championship in the same season. The top-seeded Tigers claimed the FAA Tournament title with a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory against Kingswood Oxford School at Wings Arena in Stamford on Feb. 28th. The championship win marked the first time in program history the Tigers won both hockey titles.

In the FAA Tournament’s title matchup, senior goaltender Max Motovylyak was outstanding for GCDS, registering saves on 41 of the 44 shots shots he faced.
Cullen Carré, a freshman, scored the game-winning goal in overtime, giving Greenwich Country Day the 2026 FAA Tournament championship. Logan Mackey, a junior, scored twice, freshman Henry Schwefel added a goal and an assist, and sophomore Jonah Gutman recorded two assists for the champion Tigers.

GCDS’ penalty kill was exceptional. The Tigers held Kingswood-Oxford scoreless during all five power plays they faced against a Kingswood-Oxford team with the best power play conversion rate in the FAA.
“This is a team of winners, plain and simple,” Greenwich Country Day head coach Guy Savage said. “Whenever they needed to close out a game or their backs were against the wall, this group of young men always found a way to get it done.”

Tim Helstein, the GCDS Director of Athletics said: “Not only did they win the FAA regular season championship, but to then capture the FAA Tournament title, both for the first time in the program’s history, is what truly sets this season apart.”
Prior to defeating Kingswood-Oxford in the championship game of the FAA Tournament, the Tigers topped fourth-seeded St. Luke’s, 6-3, in the semifinal-round.
For the season, Greenwich Country Day posted a strong record of 8-2-1 in the FAA and a stellar 12-6-1 mark overall.
