Balanced scoring effort powers Cardinals girls lacrosse team to dominant win over Fairfield Ludlowe at Cardinal Stadium

Greenwich High School’s girls lacrosse team got back on the winning track in a big way on Tuesday, rolling to a resounding 15-1 win over FCIAC foe Fairfield Ludlowe at Cardinal Stadium.

Senior attack Emma Abbazia recorded four goals and two assists to power the Cardinals, who snapped a three-game losing streak. With the victory, Greenwich improved its overall record to 5-4.

Junior attack Aubrey Roth registered two goals and two assists, while sophomore Dillon McFerran recorded a hat trick for the Cardinals in their convincing win.

“The defensive play and teamwork on offense was outstanding,” Greenwich coach Tara Clough said.

Sophomore attack Sophia DiPietro had two goals and one assist, freshman Lily Nogaki had two goals and one assist and senior attack Mary Kate Frey tallied twice for the victors. Sophomore attack/midfielder Giselle DiPietro assisted on four goals to help spark the winning effort.

Katie Janis, a senior, made four saves in goal for GHS.

“Katie came up with a few key saves early in the game, which helped set the tone,” Clough noted.

Abbazia caused three turnovers, junior midfielder Flynn Tauber caused three turnovers, junior Graycen Aslanson forced two turnovers and sophomore Leighton Collier caused a turnover. On draw controls, Abbazia had four and Giselle DiPietro totaled three versus Ludlowe.

Greenwich takes a long trip up to East Lyme for a non-conference game tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
