Greenwich High School’s winter sports teams will start their respective seasons this week, after their seasons were delayed for approximately six weeks, due to COVID-19 safety guidelines.

The Cardinals’ boys basketball team hosts FCIAC foe Staples on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Greenwich travels to New Canaan on Friday for a 5 p.m. matchup. Greenwich’s boys basketball team is slated to play 11 games, all against FCIAC opponents. Greenwich’s girls basketball team travels to Staples for a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday. The Cardinals and Wreckers were scheduled to face each other in the semifinal round of the CIAC Class LL Tournament in 2020, but the game and the rest of the tournament, was cancelled, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cardinals girls basketball squad’s home-opener is Friday against New Canaan at 5 p.m.
In hockey action, Greenwich’s boys team hosts Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde in its season-opener on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink. Wednesday, Greenwich visits FCIAC rival Darien at Darien Ice House. The puck will drop at 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenwich’s girls ice hockey squad opens its season Monday (Feb. 8) against Ridgefield/Danbury/Immaculate at Winter Garden Ice Arena at 2:20 p.m. Greenwich’s first home game is Thursday against Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe at 5:30 p.m.
In boys swimming, the Cardinals host Darien in an FCIAC meet on Friday at 4 p.m. Greenwich’s gymnastics team is scheduled to travel to Wilton (the meet may be changed to the Greenwich YWCA) on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. The Cardinals will compete against Darien at the Darien YMCA on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Greenwich boys and girls ski team will hit the slopes at Mount Southington for their first meet of the season on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
