Sacred Heart Greenwich opened its lacrosse season in dominating fashion, coasting to a 16-1 victory over host Hopkins School in New Haven on Wednesday.
“I’m super happy with how we played,” Sacred Heart coach Alyson Messinger Costigan said. “We have been doing a lot in practice and they have grown and are meshing well together.”
The Tigers (1-0) held a 12-1 halftime lead on Hopkins in the FAA matchup. Dylan Drury recorded three goals and two assists, while Caroline Fouts recorded a hat trick to help pace the Tigers’ offense. Hannah Dempsey tallied two goals and three assists and Franny O’Brien had a hat trick with two assists in the winning effort.
“I’m impressed with how well we worked together,” Messinger Costigan said. “Not playing almost two seasons makes it real challenge to build chemistry, but the girls are learning the ins and outs of working together. “
Goalie Laura O’Connor made three saves for Sacred Heart, which held the possession advantage throughout. Kelly Haggerty (two goals, one assist), Grace Lillis (1 goal), Mackenzie Coleman (1 goal) and Karina Sethi (1 goal) also sparked the Tigers offensively.
Sacred Heart hosts St. Luke’s in its home-opener on Saturday at 2 p.m.
