Sacred Heart Greenwich’s lacrosse and golf teams each began the week by registering decisive victories.
The Tigers’ lacrosse team got back on the winning track, after being edged by William Penn Charter School, defeating Greenwich Country Day School on Monday, 15-1. In golf action, Sacred Heart topped King School, 5-0, at Sterling Farms Golf Course.
On the lacrosse field at Sacred Heart, the Tigers received goals from 10 different players on their way to victory. Sacred Heart was coming off an 11-10 road loss to William Penn Charter School.
“We just came out really strong, we had a tough game this past Saturday, so we wanted to focus on getting the little things right, the fundamentals,” Sacred Heart coach Alyson Costigan said. “The girls took the game and just ran with it.”
Freshman Maggie Bacigalupo, sophomore Mackenzie Coleman, junior Franny O’Brien, freshman Kaitlin Robinson and senior Hannah Dempsey each tallied twice in Sacred Heart’s triumph against visiting Greenwich Country Day. Coleman and O’Brien also had one assist apiece.
Freshman Olivia Leahy, sophomore Karina Sethi, Fiona Lewis (senior), Maggie Sullivan (sophomore) and Payton Sfreddo (freshman) each scored one goal for the victors. Senior Rachel Keefe made two first-half saves and sophomore Laura O’Connor had a second-half save for Sacred Heart, which visits neighborhood rival Greenwich Academy on Saturday at 12 p.m.
“I’m really pleased to see our team have another opportunity to build chemistry and work together,” Costigan said. “It was an all-around team effort and we played at a high level.”
On the golf course, captain Lianna Amoruso won her No. 1 matchup for Sacred Heart, 5 and 4. Mary Grace Farrell, a Tigers captain, was victorious at the No. 2 spot, 4 and 3. At No. 3. Kate Hong was a 4 and 2 winner.
Lydia Fullerton posted a 4 and 3 victory at No. 4, while Sam Mecane won her match at No. 5, 5 and 3.
Sacred Heart improved its record to 2-1 with the win and is in action again on Wednesday against FAA rival Greenwich Academy at Round Hill Club. The teams will tee off at 3 p.m.
