Registering victories in two singles matches and a pair of doubles matchups, the Greenwich High School boys tennis team edged host Ridgefield, 4-3, on Tuesday.
“The boys played great, it was a full team effort,” Cardinals coach Ray Marschall said.
Senior Matt Luzzi won in straight sets at first singles for the Cardinals (5-3). Freshman Matthew Hunt lost a tough match at second singles and sophomore Zachary Toback was edged at third singles in three sets for Greenwich.
At fourth singles, freshman Harrison Wolf posted a straight set win for the Cardinals. In the No. 1 doubles match, sophomores Dylan Atkinson and Cain Jahn held off a tough Ridgefield doubles team. Facing a consistent Tigers squad at second doubles, Isaiah Sohn and Connor Sobieri of Greenwich were defeated at second doubles.
In the deciding match, senior Sebastian Yamasato and junior Lucas Piccininno were consistent on their way to taking the No. 3 doubles match for Greenwich.
“We jumbled up the lineup a little bit today to get some of the guys in who hadn’t played much earlier and I was delighted to see how much fight and spirit there was both on the court and behind the fences,” Marschall said. “It was a nice, solid win.”
Greenwich visits Bridgeport Central on Thursday.
