Effectively executing on both ends of the field, the Darien girls lacrosse team recorded a 15-5 victory over Greenwich Academy in a non-conference game in Greenwich on Wednesday.
“Generally, we were about even on 50/50 balls and draw controls, but we had trouble keeping possession in our offensive end,” Greenwich Academy coach Melissa Anderson said. “Darien puts some decent pressure on the ball and we had trouble handling it.”
Senior co-captain Margaret Maruszewski registered two goals and two assists for GA. Dylan Casazza also tallied twice for the Gators. Ava Butz had four draw controls and Ellie Burdick had one goal and two draw controls.
Ryan Hapgood helped lead the offense for Darien, which received strong play in goal from Shea Dolce. Darien improved its record to 5-1 with the win. Rebecca Arpano made seven saves for Greenwich Academy.
“Our defense did a nice job, given how much they were tasked with, but as always, Darien has a lot of threats and in a long set they will eventually get some good shots off,” Anderson said. “Rebecca played well in the goal, with seven saves.”
Greenwich Academy hosts longtime rival Sacred Heart Greenwich on Saturday at 12 p.m.
