A 12-5 road win against Danbury on Tuesday gave the Greenwich boys lacrosse team the FCIAC West Division title.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we got everyone in and still won the game to capture the Western Division with a 9-1 final record in the FCIAC,” Greenwich coach Bobby Lutz said.
The Cardinals, who are 9-4 overall, conclude their regular season Thursday with a home game against non-conference foe Cheshire. On Tuesday against the host Hatters, junior attack Bryce Metalios recorded four goals and two assists to help power the Cardinals. Sophomore Brian Collins tallied two goals and two assists, while senior Jack Cook had one goal and two assists in the victory.
Junior James Pilc scored twice, junior Flynn Milledge had one goal and one assist and junior Wesley Zolin and senior Jonny Doyle hade one goal apiece for Greenwich.
Quinn Warwick, a junior, was strong on faceoffs, winning 11 of the 14 he took for the victors. Senior Will Clemens made four saves, while junior Charles Zola stopped two shots for Greenwich.
“We play for an FCIAC and state title, but it’s nice that this 2021 team found a way to leave its mark in the books,” Lutz said.
