The Greenwich 11-Under Cal Ripken All-Stars have spent the summer capturing championship trophies.
The summer began with Greenwich winning a District title, then the team garnered the winner’s trophy at the Cal Ripken New England Regionals.
Greenwich’s 11U All-Stars edged Fairhaven Massachusetts, 4-3, in the title game Thursday night in Dover, New Hampshire. Trailing 3-0, Greenwich rallied to tie the game, then earned a walk-off win, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With a runner on third, Greenwich’s Maddox Monterisi delivered a single, which scored the game winning run. Monterisi was named the Player of the Game.
Philip Tarantino pitched four strong innings for Greenwich and Liam Zeller was impressive on the mound as well for the victors. By winning the New England Regionals, Greenwich qualified for the Cal Ripken 11U World Series. The team then defeated New Milford, 7-4 and New Canaan, 9-0, to make it to the final. In the title game, Greenwich dropped a 14-2 decision to Danbury, but still qualified for the New England Regional tourney due to their fine showing at the state competition.
