Receiving contributions from numerous athletes, Greenwich High School’s girls volleyball team improved its record to 2-0 with a 3-0 win over visiting St. Joseph on Monday.
The Cardinals won the match by game scores of 25-13, 25-11, 25-10. Senior middle blocker Liana Sarkissian registered 16 kills, five blocks and five aces to help pace the Cardinals. Adele Sotgiu, a senior outside hitter/captain, recorded 12 kills in the winning effort.
“The team came out and played very well,” Greenwich coach Steve Lapham said. “Liana was very powerful as was Adele. Our offense was clicking. We were passing well – Adele was passing well the whole day.”
Junior outside hitter Maggie Saleeby had five kills and five aces, while senior captain Sophie Jones added five kills and five aces for the Cards (2-0). Sophomore libero Hayley Dionnis posted five digs, while junior setter Lucia Spanjol had four digs and 38 assists.
“Hayley was passing great and Maggie was passing awesome as well,” Lapham said. “Lucia was putting the ball out in front so they can swing, she had a very nice game.”
Sophomore Kassidy Bonney tallied three aces in the win.
“As a team, we had relatively few unforced errors,” Lapham said.
Up next for Greenwich is a road matchup against FCIAC rival Trumbull Wednesday at 4 p.m.
