In a close, competitive high school girls swim meet between formidable FCIAC teams, Greenwich posted a well-earned 101-86 against Ridgefield on Wednesday.
Sophomore Payton Foster won two individual events for the Cardinals, who upped their record to 4-0. Foster finished first in the 200-yard individual medley, registering a time of 2:05.52, then won the 100 freestyle in 54.04. Greenwich’s Michelle Weissler, a freshman, was third in the 200 IM (2:14.25) and senior Emma Robinson took third in the 100 freestyle (56.19).
In the diving event, senior Esme Merrill was the winner, totaling 206.64 points over six dives for the Cardinals. Sophomore Mackenzie Newi of Greenwich was second (203.03). Freshman Sena Bozkurt touched the wall first for Greenwich in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.91) and teammate Isabella Malchow placed third (1:01.40).
Weissler recorded a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:07.93. Ridgefield received two winning efforts from freshman Lily Archibald in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Keira Giles, a freshman, was the 200 and 500-yard freestyle winner for the Cardinals.
Malchow, Weissler, Bozkurt and sophomore Sofia Wang combined to give Greenwich a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:50.05), while Foster, Wang, Robinson and senior Caterina Li won the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.31).
Robinson was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle (1:59.91) and teammate Daisy Decker, a junior, was third (2:01.62). Li took second in the 50 freestyle (25.17), followed by Wang (third, 25.21). Li had a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (59.80) and Bozkurt was third (1:00.19).
Greenwich is in action again today for a 4 p.m. home meet against Westhill.
