Greenwich Academy put the finishing touch on a highly successful cross country season by flourishing at the New England Division I Championships at Phillips Andover Academy on Saturday.
GA, which recently won the team title at the FAA Cross Country Championships, placed sixth in the team standings out of 14 teams at Saturday’s ultra-competitive New England Division I meet.
Sophomore Maddy Lee finished eighth overall in the race for GA. Lee posted a time of 19:56 to earn All-New England Team honors. Senior Ava Butz, a co-captain, had Greenwich Academy’s next best finish, placing 19th with a time of 20:34. She was also named to the All-New England Team.
Greenwich Academy’s runners were also paced by Emily Goodman (22:08), Emily Greenhaw (22:13), Katie McIntyre (22:36, a personal-record time) and Poppy Huffman (23:35).
“It was a good cross country course, with two hills to deal with,” GA coach Jane Finch said. “It was a great cross country season. We will miss our two captains, Ava Butz and Emily Greenhaw next year. They were significant to the team’s success during their tenure on the team.”
