
Sacred Heart Greenwich continued its highly impressive start to its 2021-2022 basketball season, improving its record to a perfect 4-0 with another standout performance on Wednesday.
A dominant force in the low post, senior center Sarah Augustine scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while junior guard Payton Sfreddo totaled 15 points for Sacred Heart in its 79-25 victory over visiting Greenwich Academy in an FAA game held on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior forward/center Kaitlin Robinson scored 13 points, senior guard/forward Franny O’Brien had 10 points and sophomore guard Victoria Hart chipped in six points for the Tigers, who held a 49-12 halftime advantage. Greenwich Academy closed to within 11-7 after sophomore guard Sydney Dettmer converted a 3-pointer with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter. Sacred Heart went on a significant run from there, sparked by Augustine, who scored 12 points during the second quarter, with a lot of her points coming on putbacks off offensive rebounds.
“Senior captain Sarah Augustine did a little bit of everything on the court tonight,” SHG coach Ayo Hart said. “She racked up assists, blocks, steals and posted her third double-double of the season.”

Guards Eva Wilkerson and Olivia Leahy contributed five points apiece and backcourt mate Ava Curto chipped in four points for the victors.
“Every game is an opportunity to be challenged and to learn something about ourselves,” said Sacred Heart coach Ayo Hart. “We have talked all season about how deep our bench is and today we were able to give everyone on our team ample minutes to gain confidence and push themselves outside their comfort zone.”
Dettmer paced Greenwich Academy with eight points including, two deep 3-pointers. Ruby Montanez, a freshman guard, added six points and junior Ellie Burdick scored four points for GA. Elizabeth Spaulding and Izzy Rosales put up points apiece and Maddie Azrak converted on a free throw for the Gators.

Sfreddo scored 11 first-half points, including two 3-pointers, while Hart tallied six points in the opening half and Leahy and Wilkerson each chipped in five points for Sacred Heart before halftime.
The Tigers are making a road trip to Groton, Mass., this week to compete in the Groton/Lawrence Academy Holiday Tournament.

Greenwich Academy will head to Rhode Island this weekend for the St. George’s School Tournament.
