Winning 11 of 12 events, the Greenwich High School boys swimming team started its season in impressive fashion, defeating Darien, 118-52, in an FCIAC meet held at the Darien YMCA on Thursday.
Senior Ryan Jee and junior Aiden Bucaria won two individual events apiece for the Cardinals (1-0). Bucaria won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.65 and finished first in the 100 freestyle (49.05). Jee took first in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 22.49 seconds, then came right back and won the 100 butterfly in 54.62.
Sophomore Felix Flakstad was the 200-yard individual medley winner for Greenwich (2:05.04) and senior Justin Jacob had a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 55.90.
Mic Dilascia, a senior, earned the meet’s best time in the 100 breaststroke for the Cardinals (1:01.42), who swept the relay events. In the 1-meter diving event held at the New Canaan YMCA on Friday, Cardinals junior Whitaker Grover placed first, earning 325 points. Greenwich junior Jayden Satir was second in the diving competition (274).
Darien’s Ryan Roberts was the 500-yard freestyle winner with a time of 5:00.10. Jacob, Dilascia, Jee and Luke Mendelsohn combined to win the 200 medley relay for GHS in 1:39.87. In the 200 freestyle, Jee, Kegan Clark, Jonathan Bergbaum and Bucaria won the race for the Cards, who saw Flakstad, Mendelsohn, Clark and Bucaria combine for a winning effort.
