
Greenwich Academy’s basketball team captured the first win of the season it was seeking Saturday at Canterbury School.
Perseverance and a positive attitude through tough times paid off for Greenwich Academy, which put together a strong performance and entered the win column for the first time this season, defeating host Canterbury School, 36-26.
Freshman forward Emily Sherman led all scorers with 14 points to power GA.
“Our girls have been developing all season and putting in the work to get better,” Greenwich Academy coach Jordan Griffith said. “This was a culmination of all their hard work this year.”
Junior captain/forward Ellie Johnson scored eight points and freshman point guard Ruby Montanez had seven points for the Gators. Freshman Chloe Cook made a go-ahead 3-pointer in the fourth quarter for the Gators, who were also sparked by Ellie Burdick and Maddie Azrak.
“We are so proud of this group and we are excited for the next steps for them,” Griffith said.
Up next for Greenwich Academy is a game against FAA opponent Greenwich Country Day School Monday at 4:30 p.m.
