Greenwich High junior Whitaker Grover wins Class LL diving championship

Whitaker Grover was second to none at the CIAC Class LL Diving Championships Monday at Middletown High School.

A Greenwich High School junior, Grover captured the Class LL diving title, earning an outstanding score of 536.05 points through 11 rounds of action.

The championship was the second of the season for Grover on the 1-meter diving board. He won recently won the FCIAC diving title and was presented with the Jon Hahnfeldt Memorial Diving Award for his victory.

Junior Ben Bradley, representing Norwalk/McMahon, placed second at the the Class LL Diving Championships, totaling 494.75 points. John Holland of the Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde co-op team finished third (470.85) and Greenwich junior Jayden Satir was fourth (449.70). Jay Shah of Glastonbury (435.70), Alex Rosania from Southington (429.65), Christian Butler (North Haven co-op, 403.95), Greenwich sophomore Jacob Winston (372.05) and Norwalk/McMahon’s Jaxson Mcquaid (366.90) placed 6th-10th, respectively at the Class LL diving competition, which included 22 athletes.

By finishing first and fourth, respectively, Grover and Satir gave Greenwich a good start in the team points department heading into tomorrow’s swimming portion of the Class LL Championships. The Cardinals will look to capture another Class LL title when they compete in the championship meet tomorrow at Cornerstone Pool at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford at 1:30 p.m.

Grover will look to gain another championship when he tests his skills in the State Open Diving Championships Thursday at Middletown High School.
