Excelling at the plate and on the mound, Greenwich High’s softball team posted its first victory of the season, defeating visiting Stratford, 9-3, in a non-conference game held on Tuesday.
Freshman pitcher Sophia Blos earned the win for the Cardinals, allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings. She did not issue a walk on her way to the triumph.
Greenwich (1-2) scored one run in the second inning, a run in the third inning, two in the fourth and five in the fifth inning. Junior Kate D’Andrea went 2 for 3 with an RBI, while senior Madison Murphy was 2 for 4 with an RBI to pace the Cardinals’ offense.
Sophomore Mia Gangi also propelled Greenwich’s lineup, delivering two hits and driving in two runs. Gia Elezaj, also a sophomore, added a hit in the winning effort.
Greenwich visits Weston Friday at 4:30 p.m., then hosts Westhill Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
