A fast start sparked the Sacred Heart Greenwich team to a well-earned 12-11 victory against visiting Summit (N.J.) High School Saturday afternoon.
With the hard-fought win, the Tigers improved their record to 3-0.
“Huge win today versus a very talented Summit team,” Sacred Heart co-head coach Sharon Robinson said. “We were up early 4-0 and up 7-5 at half. We were up 12-8 with three minutes to go and up 12-9 with a minute to go. A few turnovers and summit draws made the last minute very exciting but we held on for the 12-11 victory.”
Senior midfielder/co-captain Franny O’Brien recorded a game-high five goals and also added an assist to lead Sacred Heart. Junior Karina Sethi registered two goals and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Payton Sfreddo tallied twice in the winning effort.
Sophomore Maggie Bacigalupo also added two goals for the Tigers, who received one goal and one assist from junior Kelly Haggerty and one assist from freshman Charley Bacigalupo.
Jane Freeman scored four goals to pace Summit.
“Laura O’Connor came up with some huge saves, 10 in total, which made a huge difference,” coach Robinson noted. “Maggie Bacigalupo, Liv Leahy and Payton Sfreddo did well in the draws, with us winning 14 of 25.”
Sacred Heart has a scrimmage at home against Mamaroneck on Monday, then visits Lawrenceville School on Thursday.
