Greenwich’s girls lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision to Staples in an FCIAC matchup held in Westport on Thursday.
“Credit to Staples, who came out with a lot of energy,” Greenwich coach Tara Clough said. “We made some adjustments on the draw and came up with more possessions in the second half.”
Sophomore midfielder Emma Abbazia recorded a hat trick for the Cardinals (2-1), who opened their season with victories against Norwalk and Simsbury.
Senior midfielder Noey Johnson, junior midfielder Sophia Neitzell and junior attack Cece Tauber scored one goal apiece for the Cardinals against Staples.
“We just struggled to move the ball successfully and convert,” Clough. “Kaitlin Kelly stood out as a key transition player. We really hope we see them again in the tournament.”
Greenwich hosts Westhill on Tuesday, then visits Brien McMahon on Thursday.
