Greenwich’s baseball team was edged by Danbury, 4-2, in an FCIAC matchup held in Danbury on Monday.
The Hatters scored three runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning of Cardinals junior pitcher Nathan Jones. Jones struck out six batters in five innings of work.
Sophomore first baseman John McHugh went 2 for 2 with a double and one RBI to lead Greenwich’s lineup. Senior third baseman Justin Zych, senior second baseman Robert Rota and Jones each had one hit for the Cardinals (6-8).
Tommy Passamano pitched one inning of scoreless relief for Greenwich. Danbury moved its record up to 13-3 with its fifth straight win. The Cardinals are back in action today, as they visit Bridgeport Central for a 4:30 p.m. game.
GREENWICH SOFTBALL
Visiting Danbury registered 11 hits and jumped out to a three-run lead after two innings on its way to defeating host Greenwich, 9-1, in an FCIAC game held on Monday.
Freshman Sophia Blois was the starting pitcher for Greenwich and she threw a complete game, finishing with three strikeouts.
The Cardinals, who were limited to two hits, host Bridgeport Central today at 4:30 p.m.
