

Greenwich High’s Kaitlyn Fay, left and Esme Daplyn each finished second in two events at the CIAC Class LL Championships recently at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Connecticut. The duo helped the Cardinals place third in the team standings.
Greenwich High School’s girls track and field team showed it is among the best teams in the state with a spectacular showing at the CIAC Class LL Championships at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on Tuesday.
The Cardinals finished third in the team standings at the 19-team meet, totaling 63.50 team points. Glastonbury won the Class LL title (118), while Danbury placed second (87.50). Ridgefield was fourth (54), followed by Hall (52.
Junior Kaitlyn Fay and sophomore Esme Daplyn each finished second in two individual events at the Class LL Championships for Greenwich. Fay was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 12.29 seconds. Danbury’s Alanna Smith won the race in 12.13.
In the 200-meter dash, Fay earned the silver medal with a time of 25.30 seconds. Smith of Danbury was also the 200 meter Class LL champion (24.65).

Daplyn posted a second-place finish in the 800-meter run at the Class LL meet, recording a time of 2:16.23, giving the Cardinals eight team points.
The 1600-meter run saw Daplyn earn the silver medal with a time of 5:04.80. Kali Holden of Trumbull was the Class LL champion (4:57.49).
Cardinals junior Haley Townsend also produced a pair of standout performances. Townsend finished second in Class LL in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 16.61 seconds. She was also fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.21).

In the 4×100-meter relay, Greenwich’s Noelle Wilkinson, a freshman, Olivia Eslava, a senior, Skylar Aysseh, a freshman and Fay combined for an impressive second place finish at the Class LL meet, posting a time of 50.01 seconds. Brien McMahon won the race in 49.38.
Townsend, junior An Suzuki, Aysseh and Daplyn combined for a fifth-place finish in the 4×400 relay (4:12.26). Senior Anna Weiksner, Suzuki, freshman Lindsay Schuler and junior Elizabeth Anderson were sixth in the 4×800 for GHS (10:22.74).
Senior Tabitha Cook had a seventh-place finish in Class LL for Greenwich in the high jump (4-10.00), while freshman Sophie Richie took seventh in the triple jump (32-06.75).
