
The fast-running duo of Kaitlyn Fay and Esme Daplyn were among the Greenwich High School athletes who excelled at the recent State Open and New England championship meets, held recently at Veterans Stadium at Willow Brook Park in New Britain.
Fay and Daplyn helped spearhead the Cardinals’ solid 10-place finish out of 67 teams at the ultra-competitive CIAC State Open at Willow Brook Park. Kay, a junior, finished second overall in the 100-meter dash at the State Open, registering a time of 12.43 seconds, giving Greenwich eight team points. Alanna Smith from Danbury won the 100-meter race with a time of 12.15 seconds.
In the 200-meter race, Fay finished sixth at the State Open, crossing the finish line in 25.51 seconds. Daplyn, a sophomore, posted a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the State Open, clocking in at 2:14.19. Gabriella Hernandez of E.O. Smith was the race’s winner (2:12.88).

Daplyn placed seventh in the 1600-meter event, recording a time of 5:07.79. Also at the State Open, Greenwich’s Noelle Wilkinson (freshman), Olivia Eslava (senior), Skylar Ayssen (freshman) and Fay combined for a seventh place showing in the 4×100 relay (49.81 seconds).
The recent New England Championships saw Fay finish third for the Cardinals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.40 seconds. Daplyn ran to a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter event in a personal-record time of 2:12.42.
