
Following losses against Cheshire and Ridgefield, the Greenwich High School girls swimming team got back on the winning track this past Thursday against visiting Westhill/Stamford.
Junior Sydney Jee won two individual events for Greenwich, which recorded a 104-82 win over Westhill/Stamford in an FCIAC meet. The Cardinals’ record stands at 6-3 following the home win.
Jee won the 200-yard freestyle for the Cardinals, touching the wall in 2:00.58. Emma Williams of Westhill/Stamford was second in 2:07.78, while Greenwich freshman Kaleigh Murphy placed third with a time of 2:11.61.
Carolina Hitlin of the Vikings was the 200-yard individual medley winner, clocking in at 2:23.20. Cardinals freshman Melissa Geiger was the runner-up (2:26.49), while teammate Ainsley Sahrbeck, also a freshman, finished third (2:28.43).
Freshman Wesley Wales gave Greenwich a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle (26.04) and right behind her was teammate Daisy Decker, a senior (26.14). Junior Tess Furno (27.19) and senior Ellen Norell (27.25) were third and fourth, respectively, for the Cards in the 50 freestyle.
Jee also swam to victory in the 100-yard butterfly, registering a time of 1:01.48. In the 200 medley relay, Westhill’s Juliette Orlandi, Pearl Robotti, Caroline Bernacki and Sylvia Marciz combined for a winning time of 1:59.60. Decker, Emma Stehmann, Geiger and Wales were second for GHS, combining for a 1:59.91 finish. The 100 freestyle race was won by Westhill/Stamford’s Annie Edwards (56.37). Teammate Ariana Milewski took second in 57.66, while Stehmann was third (58.55) and teammate Anabelle Guarnera, a junior, finished fourth (58.64).
Decker produced a winning performance in the 500 freestyle (5:32.29), while Geiger took second in 5:37.65 for GHS. Stehmann, Jee, Wales and Furno swam on Greenwich’s first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:47.06). Guarnera placed second in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.77. Westhill/Stamford’s Olivia Cieciwa won the event in 1:02.91. Sahrbeck was third in the 100 backstroke (1:07.94). Gavyn Finz, a sophomore, took second in the 100 breaststroke race, posting a time of 1:17.99. Westhill/Stamford’s Pearl Robotti touched the wall first in 1:17.03.
The meet concluded with Greenwich winning the 400 freestyle relay. Decker, Guarnera, Jee and Stehmann combined for a first-place showing of 3:50.58.
Greenwich hosts FCIAC rival Darien on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
