Another impressive offensive performance by Klara Mueffelmann paced the Greenwich High School field hockey team to another victory.
Mueffelmann scored four goals, leading the Cardinals to a 4-1 win over Trumbull in an FCIAC game held at Cardinal Stadium on Saturday.
“We maintained possession of the ball the majority of the game and had a lot of really great scoring opportunities, some of which narrowly missed and others that were beautiful goals,” Greenwich coach Megan Wax said.
Greenwich has won two straight games and are 5-1 in their last six to raise its record to 6-3. The Cardinals drew five penalty corners and junior goalie Kelly Janssen registered three saves in the winning effort. Trumbull had seven penalty corners, but were unable to score much against the Cards, who have allowed only three goals in their last six matchups.
Mueffelmann, a senior, who will play field hockey at Boston College next year, continued her standout season. Greenwich’s leading goal scorer, Mueffelmann scored one goal in the first quarter, two in the third quarter and one in the final frame.
“Klara continued to dominate the circle, scoring all four goals,” Wax said.
Mueffelmann scored Greenwich’s first goal with 6:28 remaining in the opening quarter. Mueffelmann then scored off an assist from freshman Emilia Arroyo at the 12:37 mark of the third quarter.
In the third quarter, Mueffelmann scored her third goal with 1:36 left, then capped her four-goal game by tallying with 6:28 remaining in the final quarter.
“Emilia and Stella (Thiebeault) did a great job of distributing the ball well to kick start our offensive attack,” Wax noted.
Greenwich is back in action Tuesday with a matchup against FCIAC foe Staples at 4:30 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
