Kate Nemec’s two goals sparks Sacred Heart field hockey team past visiting Loomis Chaffee School in NEPSAC action

Kate Nemec had another strong offensive game for Sacred Heart Greenwich in its field hockey win vs. Loomis Chaffee.

Sacred Heart Greenwich’s field hockey team continued its outstanding season Wednesday downing visiting Loomis Chaffee School, 3-0, in a NEPSAC game.

The senior duo of Kate Nemec and Vivi Caruso powered the Tigers’ offense. Nemec tallied twice, while Caruso added a goal for Sacred Heart, which improved its record to 7-1.

Caruso scored the game’s first goal, tallying with 10:05 remaining in the opening quarter. Nemec notched her first goal with only 17 seconds left in the opening quarter, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Nemec scored off a penalty stroke, putting the Tigers on top, 3-0. Senior Olivia Caponiti made two saves in goal for another shutout victory.

Loomis goalie Liz Winemaster made eight saves. Sacred Heart kept the pressure on Loomis throughout, drawing 12 penalty corners. Loomis Chaffee took three penalty corners.

“We were very happy to play home again,” Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe said. “It took a while to build momentum however, we were happy with the outcome.”

Sacred Heart hosts Hotchkiss School on its Homecoming on Saturday at 3 p.m.
