
Sacred Heart Greenwich and Greenwich Academy renewed their volleyball rivalry on Wednesday and as is usually the case between the neighborhood foes, it was a close, hard-fought match.
Dropping the first set, Sacred Heart came back to defeat visiting Greenwich Academy, 3-2, in an FAA match. With the win, the Tigers improved their record to 5-1 in the FAA and 6-5 overall.
Co-captain/setter Emilia Bernal recorded 27 assists, 23 digs, six aces and one kill for Sacred Heart, which won the back-and-forth match against GA, 25-27, 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 15-7.
Grace Gapen led Sacred Heart in the hitting department, posting 14 kills, 14 digs, one ace, one assist and one block. Kaitlin Robinson registered 10 kills, three aces, four digs, three blocks and three assists, while co-captain Martina Bernal also had a standout all-around match for SHG, tallying eight kills, five digs and one ace.
Sacred Heart hosts Kent School on Saturday, then is home again on Monday against FAA opponent Masters School. Greenwich Academy (5-4, 5-3 FAA) visits Miss Porter’s School on Friday.
