Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey team too much for Hotchkiss on Homecoming, improves to 8-1

Sacred Heart Greenwich’s field hockey team enjoyed a successful Homecoming Saturday, defeating visiting Hotchkiss School, 5-2, in a NEPSAC game.

The Tigers ran their record to 7-1 with the victory, which saw them outscore the Bearcats, 4-1 in the second half. Senior Delfina Gonzalez Lobo gave Sacred Heart a 1-0 lead when she scored with 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Rowyn Pemrick tied the score at 1-1 for Hotchkiss, scoring at the 10:02 mark of the second quarter. Sacred Heart took the lead for good at 2-1 on a goal by senior Kate Nemec at the 12:37 mark of the third quarter. Gonzalez Lobo made it 3-1 when she tallied with 7:42 to go in the third period.

After Rachel Biccard brought Hotchkiss to within 3-2 with 12:52 left in the fourth quarter, goals by senior Vivi Caruso and Skyler Stewart extended the Tigers’ advantage to 5-2.

Senior Olivia Caponiti made three saves for Sacred Heart, which hosts FAA foe Rye Country Day School on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

“We started the game very strong, but we missed several opportunities and that usually costs you,” Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe said. “Hotchkiss had gained momentum and capitalized on two counter attacks, that forced us to work really hard to get the job done. We’ll take this opportunity to learn and prepare for our next match.”
