Vivi Caruso, (No. 22) pictured here in a game against Greenwich Academy, had four goals against St. Luke’s on Oct. 31, 2022, for Sacred Heart Greenwich, which posted a 7-0 road victory.

Generating goals early and often, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s field hockey team got right back on the winning track today after being edged by Oak Knoll Academy on Saturday.

The Tigers tallied five times in the first quarter and rolled to a resounding 7-0 victory over host St. Luke’s School in an FAA matchup held in New Canaan.

With the win, Sacred Heart continued its excellence in the FAA, improving its league record to 6-0 and its overall mark to 13-2.

Senior Vivi Caruso paced the Tigers’ scoring attack, posting a game-high four goals with one assist. Junior Payton Sfreddo, senior Ines Araujo and senior Delfina Gonzalez Lobo each added one goal apiece for SHG.

“It was a solid performance against an FAA opponent,” Sfreddo said. “The whole team was connected and we got the job done in the first half. We are very much looking forward to our next game, which is Senior Day. We are very excited to celebrate our seniors and all of their contributions to our team.”

The Senior Day game Sfreddo referenced takes place Wednesday against neighborhood foe Greenwich Country Day School at 3:30 p.m.

Sfreddo gave SHG a 1-0 lead, scoring with 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Araujo, one of the team’s captains, tallied at the 9:13 mark of the first quarter, then Caruso notched her first goal off an assist from Gonzalez Lobo with 7:04 to go in the opening quarter, making it 3-0.

Gonzalez Lobo scored off an assist from Caruso with 5:12 left in the first quarter and Caruso capped the opening quarter scoring, converting a shot at the 4:20 mark for a 5-0 advantage.

In the second quarter, Caruso recorded two more goals, both of which were assisted by Charly Nemec. Dominating possession, Sacred Heart held a 12-0 penalty corner advantage of St. Luke’s.

“We played a good game away and we were particularly impressed with the younger players, which gives us hope for the future.”
