The semifinal-round of the FCIAC Girls Volleyball Tournament saw Greenwich High put forth a strong effort against an undefeated Darien team, which hadn’t dropped a set all season entering the matchup.
The Cardinals did what no team has done so far this season, taking a game against the Blue Wave, but Darien kept its run toward an FCIAC title going, posting a hard-fought 3-1 win over fourth-seeded Greenwich in the semifinals, held at Fairfield Ludlowe High School on Thursday.
Darien is playing third-seeded Trumbull in today’s FCIAC final at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Greenwich advanced to the semifinals by notching a 3-2 win over fifth-seeded Fairfield Ludlowe in the quarterfinals.
In the FCIAC semifinals against Darien, Greenwich senior outside hitter Maggie Saleeby registered 17 kills and seven digs to spark the squad’s offensive output.

Junior Kassidy Bonney had eight kills and two blocks for Greenwich, which is seeded ninth in the CIAC Class LL Tournament. The Cardinals (17-5) won the Class LL tournament title in 2021.
Greenwich hosts No. 24 South Windsor in Monday’s opening round game of the Class LL Tournament.
