Top-seeded Sacred Heart Greenwich was certainly in top form in its semifinal-round game against visiting School of the Holy Child in the FAA Field Hockey Tournament on Wednesday.
The Tigers advanced to the championship game of the FAA Tournament, where it will face rival Greenwich Academy, the No. 2 seed. The Sacred Heart Greenwich-Greenwich Academy title game takes place Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart.
Against Holy Child in the semifinals, Charly Nemec scored the game’s first goal, giving SHG a 1-0 lead at the 13:007 mark of the opening quarter. Kate Nemec, a senior, registered a goal with just over six minutes remaining in the first quarter, making it 2-0. In the second quarter, Elle Corcoran converted a shot off a pass from Mackenzie Coleman, putting the Tigers on top of the Gryphons, 3-0, with 11:47 to go in the quarter.
Senior Vivi Caruso set up Skylar Stewart for a goal with 9:23 left in the second quarter, then in the third quarter, Sacred Heart received two goals from Caruso and one apiece from Delfina Lobo Gonzalez and Stewart. Lobo Gonzalez also assisted on a third-period goal for the victors.
The Tigers held a 17-0 shots-on-goal advantage on the Gryphons, while it took eight penalty corners during the game, while Holy Child didn’t have any.
“I am very proud of the team, they have been working really hard throughout the season increasing their technical skills to the next level,” Sacred Heart co-head coach Sarah Hill said. “No matter what Friday’s outcome is, we are so very proud of all of their accomplishments this season.”
