
Brunswick School split its wrestling team up to compete in two tournaments over the weekend and both squads successfully made their mark.
Brunswick’s Varsity A team tested its skills at the Avon Holiday Duals at Avon Old Farms School and finished with a record of 3-1, improving their overall record on the young season to 4-1.
The Bruins’ Varsity B team competed in the Skiff Mountain Scuffle tournament at The Marvelwood School and finished first in the team standings out of 11 squads.
At the Avon Holiday Duals, the Bruins’ A team rolled to victories against Trinity-Pawling School (a 63-12 score), Hopkins School (72-9) and Phillips Academy Andover (54-19). Brunswick’s loss in the tournament came against Northfield Mount Hermon, which posted a 58-24 victory.
For Brunswick at the Avon Holiday Duals, Christian Yanoti went 2-2 his 106-pound matches, while Matias DeBono was 3-1 at 113. Patrick O’Donohue (126) was 3-0, while Bruins teammate Michael Accetta was a perfect 4-0 in his 132-pound matchups.
Enzo Vera (138) split his four matches, while Jack Degl (150), Carlo Tucci (157), William MacGillivray (165), Wylie Ocken (175), Tomas Delgado (190) and Michael Marinin (215) each finished with a 3-1 record for Brunswick. Reed Eddy, wrestling at 285, sparked the Bruins with a 4-0 record.
At the Skiff Mountain Scuffle at The Marvelwood School, Brunswick won the team title with a team score of 162.5 points. Belmont Hill School was the runner-up (136.5), followed by New York Military Academy (131), Greens Farms Academy (119) and Salisbury School (88) at the 11-team tournament.
Brunswick junior Whip Gorman (157 pounds) was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler and was presented with the “Monster of the Mountain” trophy. Gorman posted a record of 3-0 and finished first in the 157-pound weight class.
Ethan Phelps went 2-0 in the 126-pound class, good for a first-place finish, while Bruins teammate Greer Sconzo (138) won his weight division with a 4-0 mark.
Alec Harned (144) was 2-0 for a first-place finish and Field Sickles (150) was 1-1 in his matches for Brunswick. Chris Errico was 1-0 in the 157-pound weight class and Nikki Krause (165) went 2-2. Henry Sorbaro won a match at 165 and Eric Lonnegren placed third at 175 for the Bruins, going 4-1.
The 190-pound title went to Brunswick’s Vilas Sogaard-Srikshnan, who registered a record of 3-0. Teammate Declan Murray went 2-1 in his 190-pound matches.
