
Speed on the slopes.
That’s what the Greenwich High School boys and girls skiing teams displayed during Monday’s Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League race at Mount Southington.
The Cardinals’ boys team placed third out of 12 teams in the team standings at the race, posting a time of 286.07 seconds. Fairfield Prep finished first in the team standings (274.32 seconds) and Fairfield finished in third place behind Greenwich (287.06).
Greenwich was paced by the racing of junior Thomas Ybarra. Ybarra finished his two runs with a time of 22.45 seconds for a combined time of 44.9 seconds to finish an impressive fourth overall in the race.
Owen Benison placed 17th in the meet for Greenwich, posting a time of 23.90 in his first run and 23.09 in his second run for a time of 46.99. Asher Sisca (48.1 – 24.05, 24.05) was 28th, while Nicholas Aravides (24.08, 24.08 – 48.16) and Ryan Park (24.08, 24.08 – 48.16) were 31st and 32nd, respectively, for the Cardinals, who are in the midst of a strong season in the CISL.
Steven Hartofilis registered a time of 49.76, while teammate Hayden Winig posted a time of 49.98 for Greenwich. Nicholas Sosa (51.72), Thaddeus Whittle (51.7) and Massimo Risi (51.78) at the event held at Mount Southington.

Greenwich’s girls team finished sixth in the team standings out of 12 teams at Monday’s event at Mouth Southington. The Cardinals recorded a combined team time of 323.28 seconds.
Ridgefield was the winner, posting a team time of 292.5 seconds. Staples was second (295.24). Marian Fahimi produced Greenwich’s best time. Fahimi finished with a time of 49.58 seconds, racing to a time of 24.79 in both of her runs.
Shea Norris had the Cardinals’ second-best time, clocking in at 52.12 seconds (26.06, 26.06). Maggie Ybarra was next for the Cardinals, posting a time of 52.28, (26.14, 26.14 seconds).
Also racing for Greenwich at Mount Southington on Monday were Addie Marder (57 seconds – 28. 50, 28.50), Josie Campos (57.44, 28.72, 28.72), Ava Lorenson (58.46, 29.23, 29.23), Caroline Dolan (57.74, 28.87, 28.87 and Lindsay Schuler (31.19, 31.19, 62.38).
