It was certainly a memorable season for Brunswick School’s alpine skiing team.
The Bruins produced their best season in team history by winning the Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League Class S championship and finishing second at the CISL State Open Championship.
The CISL State Open was held this past Monday at Mount Southington in Plantsville, Conn. Brunswick placed second overall in the team standings at the 13-team CISL State Open boys championship competition, recording a combined team time of 270.67 seconds. Fairfield Prep won the State Open title with a team time of 270.67 seconds.
Brunswick also finished as the top team in Class S in the state to win the Class S championship. Six other teams competed in Class S – Wilton, Weston, Cheshire, Barlow, Hand and Guilford.
The Bruins were paced by two top-10 finishers at the State Open. Also, two Brunswick racers, placed among the top-20. Sophomore Patch Leonard posted a second-place finish at the CISL State Open for the Bruins. Leonard finished his first run in 22.35 seconds and raced to a time of 20.33 in his second run for a total time of 42.68 seconds.
Senior Cameron Shipman placed sixth in his final team race for the Bruins, notching a time of 44.27 (23.32, 20.95). Sophomore Ollie Leonard was 16th with a time of 45.19 (23.49, 21.70) and Ryan Warner, also a sophomore, clocked in at 45.45 (23.52, 21.93) for the Bruins.
Matteo Santulin posted a time of 46.28 (24.55, 21.73) and Teddy Bancroft finished his two runs at the State Open in 46.8 (24.24, 22.56) for Brunswick.
