Greenwich High boys tennis team starts season by sweeping Brien McMahon

The Greenwich High School boys tennis team was a sweeping success in its season-opener against Brien McMahon on Monday.

The Cardinals began their 2023 season by recording a 7-0 win over McMahon, winning all four singles matches and each one of their three doubles matchups in straight sets.

Freshman Volodymyr Dombrovskyi got the start at No. 1 singles for Greenwich and promptly posted a 6-0, 6-0 win in his varsity debut. At second singles, sophomore Matthew Hunt was victorious, 6-2, 6-2, for the Cardinals.

Third singles saw sophomore Nicholas Fruman earn a 6-3, 6-4 win. Daniel Lee, also a sophomore, was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles for GHS.

In doubles action, junior Harrison Wolfe and sophomore Rohan Mittal won their match at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-1. Junior Bruce Lunder and sophomore Alexander Salib were perfect at second singles for Cardinals, winning their match, 6-0, 6-0.

At fourth doubles, senior Zachary Toback and sophomore Ishan Ambastha also swept their match, 6-0, 6-0. The Cardinals hosted Fairfield Ludlowe this morning and will also host rival Staples on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
