Members of Brunswick School’s crew team came home with gold medals from the ultra-competitive USRowing Northeast Youth Championships.

The Bruins’ medal-winners earned a bid to the prestigious USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida. The USRowing Youth National Championships will be held June 8-11 in Florida.

The Brunswick crew of junior Lucas Tan, junior Henry Andren, senior Jimmy Cabot, senior Ruffin Bryant, and senior Campbell Officer was able to stride out to an open water lead by the race’s 500-meter mark. By the finish line, the Bruins had a length of open water on the field in Sunday’s race.

This talented Bruins crew adds another set of medals to their tally this year, after earning gold medals at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta and the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. They also claimed silver medals at the Head of the Charles Regatta.

The Brunswick rowers will turn their attention from the four back to the eight, as they look to defend their title at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) Championship Regatta on May 27 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Brunswick advanced to Sunday’s final by winning its semifinal race Saturday afternoon. The crew was able to get out in front early and row at a reduced stroke rate for much of the 2000-meter course on their way to cruising to victory.
