Greenwich boys volleyball team sweeps Fairfield Warde in Class L state qualifier

It was a clean sweep for the Greenwich High School boys volleyball team in a tight qualifying round of the CIAC Class L state Tournament yesterday.

In a close, hard-fought match, 16th-seeded Greenwich defeated No. 17 Fairfield Warde in Fairfield, 3-0. Each set went back-and-forth, as the Cardinals won the match, 25-23, 28-26, 25-23.

Senior co-captain Ben Bowers recorded eight kills, 15 digs and one ace, while senior co-captain Ricardo Prado posted 12 kills and two blocks to help power the Cardinals to the postseason win.

Junior James Kovac provided stellar defense with 18 digs, while senior Jack Konigsberg enabled the offense to flow, registering 26 assists in the winning effort.

Nio Vigliante, a senior, also sparked the Cardinals’ offense, tallying six kills. The win moved Greenwich into the Class L Tournament’s opening round.

The Cardinals will visit top-seeded/undefeated Darien in the first round of the Class L tourney on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
