Greenwich sophomore Allison Bauer broke the high school course record in a match, shooting a 3-under par 35 (par is 38) at Longshore Golf Course on Wednesday in Westport.

The Cardinals posted a 173-184 over the Wreckers in well-played match by both teams. With the victory, Greenwich concluded its regular season with a perfect 12-0 record. Greenwich will test its skills in the FCIAC Championships on Thursday at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield.

Staples’ all-time great Anelise Browne had shared the record with a round of 35 with her counterpart, Greenwich’s sensational Catherine McEvoy, who both shot 2-under-par 35 when par was 37 back in 2016 .

In 2021, hole No. 14 was switched with hole 9, and the par for women from the men’s white tees was raised to a 38, as the front-9 was lengthened to include four par 5’s.

Hence Bauer’s score of 35 is the new record. Bauer birdied holes 3, 5 and 9, as she led the Cardinals in their final regular season match to an undefeated 12-0 record.

“Everything clicked, my driving was great, putting on point, and I took my time on my chipping,” Bauer said. “I enjoyed playing with Staples’ players, too.”

Although the pizza and cupcakes after the golf were a tribute to the final home match for Staples’ senior captains Keeva Boyle, Ellery Vishno and Reilly McGeehan, the 24 Varsity and JV players of both schools cheered for Bauer as her historical round was announced.

Greenwich enters next week’s FCIAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and is also one of the favorites to contend for the CIAC Division I state championship.
