
For the second straight season, the Greenwich High School girls golf team finished a strong second in the FCIAC Tournament at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield.
The Cardinals, who were the runner-up to New Canaan in 2022, placed second behind Trumbull at Thursday’s competitive 18-hole FCIAC Tournament.
Trumbull won the FCIAC championship, totaling a team aggregate score of 349. Greenwich finished shot a team score of 354, followed by New Canaan (358), Staples (421) and Darien (422).
New Canaan entered the tournament as the five-time defending FCIAC champions. The victory marked Trumbull’s first FCIAC championship. Greenwich has won the FCIAC Tournament title five times, with its last conference triumph coming in 2015. The Cardinals also claimed the FCIAC title in 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2010.
In Thursday’s FCIAC Championships, junior Caroline McShea paced Greenwich. McShea continued her strong season by shooting an 82 at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course.

Allison Bauer, a Cardinals sophomore, carded an 85, while Zarah Hillman, a junior, shot a 92. Maddie Driscoll, a senior, shot a 95 and Charlotte Langhorne finished with a round of 96 for Greenwich.
Trumbull was led by Grace Codd. Codd earned medalist honors, shooting a round of 80. Erica Laurentino shot an 87, while Maris Branyan carded an 86 for the Eagles.
New Canaan, which has captured seven FCIAC championships, including five straight from 2017 to 2022 (the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic), received a round of 84 from Amanda Vigano and an 89 from Adelaide Tuff.
Up next for Greenwich, coached by Taner Karakas, is the CIAC Division I Tournament at Timberlin Hill Golf Club in Berlin. Greenwich finished second behind champion New Canaan at the 2022 CIAC Division I state tournament. The Cardinals finished their 2023 regular season with perfect record of 12-0.
