Mark Kakoma, a Brunswick School senior, excelled for the school’s crew team at the 14th annual New England Junior/High School/Masters/ Fall Championships on Sunday in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Kakoma earned the silver medal in the Men’s Jr./High School 1x (single scull) race, placing second. Kakoma had to start at the back of the pack, passing several scullers over the 2.6-mile course, held at Lake Quinsigamond.

When the final results were in, Kakoma was less than three seconds back of winning the race. He also was 30 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
