Greenwich Country Day School moves on to FAA Boys Soccer Tournament finals

Greenwich Country Day School’s boys varsity team is one win away from a championship.

Seeded sixth, Greenwich Country Day propelled itself into the championship game of the FAA Tournament with a 4-2 win over second-seeded Greens Farms Academy in Thursday’s FAA semifinals, held at GFA in Westport.

The Tigers travel to New Canaan today, where they will play fourth-seeded St. Luke’s School for the FAA title at 12:30 p.m.

Against Greens Farms Academy, goals from Gael Hernandez and Mateo Sierra gave GCDS a 2-0 lead. A handball in the box gave Greens Farms a penalty kick, which they converted, cutting the Tigers’ advantage to 2-1.

The host Dragons tied the score at 2-2 on a breakaway, but Greenwich Country Day regained the lead, behind Calder Truesdale.

Truesdale tallied twice, registering goals in the 60th and 83rd minute, putting GCDS in front, 4-2. The Tigers were especially led by left back Jasper Brokaw, Devin Kellen, Asher Goldstein and of course, the key goals they received from Hernandez, Sierra and Truesdale.
