Cardinals boys lacrosse team concludes regular season with road win over Carmel; Greenwich visits Ridgefield in FCIAC quarterfinals; GHS boys volleyball team victorious against Norwalk

Greenwich High School’s boys lacrosse team capped a winning regular season by defeating host Carmel (N.Y.) High School, 15-6, on Wednesday. The victory improved Greenwich’s record to 9-7.

Up next for the Cardinals is a road game against Ridgefield in the FCIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday.

“It was a good win to end the season, but Carmel was playing their fifth game in eight days, so once we went up quickly, they did not have the energy to put up a fight,” Greenwich coach Bobby Lutz said. “Mikey (Brescia) pulled the weight with six goals and one assist.”

Indeed, Brescia had another standout game for the Cardinals, creating scoring opportunities throughout against Carmel. Boden Farmer recorded a hat trick with two assists, while Conrad Burki tallied two goals and three assists for the Cardinals.

Dean Kim added two goals and one assist, Jake Duda scored twice and Chris Marinaccio had one goal in the winning effort. Colin Zeller assisted on one goal for the victors, which received 11 saves from Jack Hamel and saw Lane Critchell win 12 of the 15 faceoffs he took.

Greenwich High boys volleyball

The Cardinals boys volleyball team was victorious against Norwalk High School recently, pulling out a 3-2 win. Against Norwalk, Greenwich won the match, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-9.

James Kovac registered 13 digs, three assists and two aces to lead the Cardinals past the Bears. Keito Fukushima had 11 digs, 33 assists and three kills, while Greenwich teammate Hiro Sibble added 18 digs, 15 kills and three aces.

Noah Zinker posted 10 digs and five kills in the winning effort. Greenwich also played FCIAC foe recently and was edged, 3-2. Warde won the match, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-12.

Kovac had 15 digs, 10 kills, two aces and one assist, while Fukushima recorded five digs, 25 assists and two kills. Sibble notched 17 digs, 10 kills, two aces and two assist for the Cardinals.
