Greenwich baseball team earns victories against Norwalk, Warde, wins FCIAC West Division, hosts Staples in FCIAC Tournament quarterfinals

Two victories this week gave the Greenwich High School baseball team the No. 2 seed in the FCIAC Tournament and the FCIAC West Division title.

The Cardinals were victorious against Norwalk, 2-1, Tuesday at home, then edged Fairfield Warde, 4-3, Wednesday, also in a home game. Greenwich clinched the FCIAC West Division title and is seeded second heading into today’s 4:30 p.m. FCIAC Tournament quarterfinal-round game against seventh-seeded Staples.

In Greenwich’s 2-1, nine-inning win versus Norwalk, freshman Luke Langhorne pitched six inning, allowing just two hits and one run. Senior Tommy Passamano threw three innings of shutout relief to earn the win.

John McHugh went 2 for 4, Cody Baker was 1 for 3 with one run scored and Emmy Bulis had two hits for the Cardinals, who finished the game with eight hits. Also against Norwalk, Hank Von Shaik delivered a key RBI hit and Passamano had a hit for GHS.

Against Warde, Aidan Brehm had one hit and one RBI, while McHugh, Bulis and Luke Tocci each had a hit for the victors. Tommy Powers got the start on the mound, pitching two innings and James Mora pitched three innings of relief to earn the victory. Greenwich goes into today’s postseason matchup against Staples with a record of 10-3 in its last 13 games.
