How’s this for dominance? Over the last seven games, Brunswick School’s varsity baseball team has scored 75 runs, while allowing just seven.
And, yes, each game resulted in a victory for the surging Bruins.
Brunswick enjoyed another winning week, shutting out FAA rival King School twice and defeating Avon Old Farms, a team that’s given them trouble in the past, in convincing fashion. Overall, the Bruins are riding a seven-game winning streak and sport a record of 9-3.
During their seven-game win streak, the Bruins have posted five shutouts and registered double figures in runs five times. Avon Old Farms paid a visit to Brunswick on April 15th and the hosts continued its recent pattern of getting strong pitching and impressive hitting to overpower its opponent. Senior right-hander Teddy Bancroft allowed one earned run in five innings and the Bruins used a seven-run first inning to record a decisive 10-2 win over NEPSAC foe Avon Old Farms.

The Bruins added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to topping Avon, which scored one run in the first inning and a run in the third.
“Timely hitting in the first, guys battled, got on base and got hits when we needed them,” Brunswick coach Connor Redahan said. “Teddy, after that first inning, settled in, threw strikes and gave the guys in the field opportunities to make plays.”
Bancroft struck out four batters in five innings, before giving way to Jackson Cunningham, who threw 2/3 of an inning. Junior right-hander Tyrus Ostrowski worked 1 1/3 innings of relief to close out the game for the Bruins.
“I felt good, I had a couple of rough outings so far, I finally got in my groove,” Bancroft said following the Bruins’ victory versus Avon Old Farms. “I went out there, I was pitching to contact and trusting my defense behind me. Those guys made every play.”

Senior first baseman Michael Marini went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and one run scored, junior shortstop Jayden Montanez was 1 for 2 with one walk, two runs scored and two RBIs, Ostrowski, who started at center field before being called on in relief, added one hit, one RBI, a walk and a run scored and junior right fielder Jack Bylow had a hit and two RBIs.
Adding to Brunswick’s offense were junior catcher Andrew Gally (one hit, one RBI), junior second baseman Owen Bartoszek (one hit, two RBIs) and sophomore left fielder Nathan Cook (two walks, two runs scored).
“I feel really good at the plate and the team has definitely gotten more plate discipline,” said Montanez, who also made several slick plays at shortstop versus Avon. “We’re hitting the ball a lot harder, everyone is attacking the ball one through nine.”

The Bruins struck early and often against the Winged Beavers, producing seven first-inning runs. Marini hit a two-run single, Andrew Gally drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Ostrowski delivered a run-scoring single, Montanez plated a pair of runs with a single and Bartoszek brought home a run with a base-loaded walk.
The hosts led, 7-1, following the first inning and were in control thereafter.
“That was definitely Brunswick team culture the way we swung it,” Marini said. “That’s what we have to do to win the hard games. If we swing the bats the way we did today, we’ll win every game.”

“It’s a nice feeling when we’re tacking on double digits hits pretty much every single game over the last few,” Redahan noted. “Good things happen when guys put the ball in play.”
Bancroft knew he needed to be in fine form to contend with a tough Avon squad, which defeated the Bruins the past several seasons, including by 10 runs one season ago.
“This was a very good Avon team, so I knew I had to hit my spots and pitch effectively,” Bancroft said. “We got mercyied by them last year, I didn’t forget that. Overall, we’re very happy with how we’re playing.”

“All the pitchers did well,” Marini said. “As the innings went on, he (Bancroft) picked it up and did what he had to do.”
Montanez has excelled at getting the Bruins’ lineup off to positive starts each game from his leadoff spot in the order. He’s consistently reached base over the course of the season.
“We’re getting hits, timely hits when we need them,” Montanez noted. “Everyone is playing out of their mind right now. I feel really good at the plate. I’m just trying to attack as many balls as I can early in the count. I’m the one hitter, so I’ll most likely be getting a fastball, something hard to hit early.”

Ostrowski delivered on the mound in his relief role as a closer for ‘Wick once again.
“I had great run support behind me, especially after that sixth inning when we got a couple of extra runs. I was able to throw strikes,” Ostrowski said. “We’re hot right now, we started off a little slow, but we’re coming into our own. It’s really exciting because we have a lot of talent on this team. I see us continuing this streak the rest of the season and hopefully, through playoffs.”
Brunswick coasted past league opponent King School on April 16, 9-0, in another home game. Marini smashed a three-run home run in the first inning and Cook hit an RBI single. Ostrowski tripled, scored a run and walked twice, Montanez had a hit and a run scored, Cook scored two runs and Andrew Gally was 2 for 3 against the visiting Vikings.

Bartoszek, Nardis and Steven Degree each had one hit and one RBI in the victory against King on April 16. Junior Reid Glanville pitched five hitless innings with seven strikeouts in the winning effort versus King.
A dominant effort on the mound by junior Johnny Gally highlighted ‘Wick’s road win over King on April 14. The hard-throwing Gally fired 15 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in a complete game effort in Brunswick’s 13-0 win over King.
At the plate, Montanez went 3 for 4 with three runs scored, Ostrowski was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Cook had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored, Bylow was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and a run scored and Andrew Gally homered and drove in two runs for the victors.s

Cook tripled, Bylow hit two doubles and Ostrowsk, Marini and Cook each doubled in the win. Nardis and Bartoszek each added a hit apiece in the road win over King.
So far this season, Brunswick has a record of 6-2 in the FAA, its losses coming against Hamden Hall Country Day School.
“I feel really good about our team, we have our minds set on Hamden again, hopefully, later in the season, ” Montanez noted. “Everybody is looking forward to that.”
