Unmatched and undefeated at home this season.

That’s what Sacred Heart Greenwich’s Varsity A lacrosse team was this season, as it won all of its home games in decisive fashion, it’s latest victory at the friendly confines of Sheehan Field occurring May 12 against Hotchkiss School.

Ranked No. 11 in the USA Lacrosse National 25 Rankings, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s Varsity A team was in its usual top form in its final home game of the 2026 season, rolling to a resounding 15-7 win over a formidable Hotchkiss School squad.

The Tigers finished the season a perfect 5-0 at home and had an overall record of 11-4 heading into the Prep Cup Tournament, held at Dexter Southfield High School in Massachusetts. Sacred Heart lost in the championship game of the Prep Cup Tournament in 2025 and won the tournament several times in previous seasons. Against Hotchkiss, senior midfielder/attack Georgia Lillis scored four goals to pace the Tigers’ offense, which was also sparked by sophomore attack Peyla Carcaterra, junior midfielder Haley Washall, junior Maggie Sweeney and numerous other athletes.

“It was a great team effort from start to finish,” SHG head coach Jackie Goldmann said. “It was a great way to end our last home game. It definitely prepared us for Prep Cup.”

Sacred Heart has held its opponents to less than 10 goals in 13 of its 15 games going into the Prep Cup Tournament, with one of those matchups coming against Hotchkiss School (10-5). Junior Addy Callaway, sophomore Genevieve Dimitri, senior captain Mackenna Kelly, senior captain Casey Smith, senior Scarlett Pfistner and senior Torin Witek are among some of the athletes who ignited the Tigers’ defense, making it a challenge for the visiting Bearcats to get open shots on goal throughout the game. SHG defeated Deerfield Academy in the first round of the Prep Cup Tournament and will play in the championship game tomorrow (May 17th).

Such a scenario played out the entire season, as Sacred Heart’s foes found it difficult to generate goals.

“Our defense had a lot of communication,” Kelly said following the team’s win over Hotchkiss. “We’ve been working on defense all week and we came out strong, which is super important going into Prep Cup this weekend.”

Indeed, it was another feel-good, end-of-the-season win for Sacred Heart, which created fond memories on the field this spring.

“We played as a team today and I think a lot of girls stepped up,” Kelly said. We got a lot of girls in, which is always nice and I think we finished off our season home strong.”

The Tigers took a 4-1 lead into the second quarter against the Bearcats. Carcaterra scored off a free position shot, extending Sacred Heart’s advantage to 5-1 1:12 into the second quarter. Washall eluded a pair of defenders and tallied, making it 6-1 in favor of the Tigers with 10:08 to go in the second quarter.

Lillis’ goal at the 9:37 mark of the second quarter, stretched the Tigers’ advantage to 7-1.

“We did a really good job of moving the ball,” Lillis said. “I think it was awesome that everybody went in and everybody contributed to our score, which is awesome. I think we worked together and played really well.”

Washall spun away from a Bearcats defender on her way to tallying again and eighth grader Riley Driscoll scored late in the second quarter, for SHG, which led, 10-2, heading into halftime.

Senior Addyson Flinchbaugh played the majority of the game in goal, providing her usual exceptional play for Sacred Heart. She was relieved by junior goalie Olivia Franco, who played well late in the second half.

“The defense played really good, we have a strong core,” said Pfistner, one of the team’s defensive anchors. “From freshman year to now, we have a strong defensive set and we always play good together.”

“Especially being our last game, we played harder and we played a backer too, so it was definitely a lot more aggressive,” Pfistner continued.

Said Smith of the team’s overall defensive effort: “We definitely did work on our backer for this game, which really helped us communicate and not let their attackers get to our defense.”

Indeed, this game had a unique feel to it for the seniors, who played their final game at Sheehan Field.

“It definitely is sentimental, me and Mackenna (Kelly) played on this field for four years and both of our sisters played on this field,” Smith noted. “It’s definitely very different knowing that it’s my last game playing on this field this year.”

Witek also noted that the Tiger dedicated the game for a special cause.

“It’s a special game, because it’s our Morgan’s Message One Love game, so we were playing for something bigger than ourselves and our team,” Witek said.

“But as a senior, I think it’s such a special way to end with a win and playing with each other for fun,” Witek added. “It’s strange to think that we won’t play another game on this field, but we still have a few more games left and we’re going to finish our season strong.”
