Defending CIAC Class LL Tournament and FCIAC Tournament champion Greenwich High School sports a record of 2-0 to start the 2026 varsity girls volleyball season, posting 3-0 victories against non-conference opponent Southington and FCIAC foe Brien McMahon.

After opening their season with a 3-0 victory over visiting Southington High School on Sept. 8, the Cardinals swept past McMahon in three games on Sept. 10. The Cardinals scrimmaged Greenwich Country Day School yesterday (Sept. 14th). Greenwich defeated Brien McMahon by set scores of 25-4, 25-14, 25-13.

Against Brien McMahon, junior Bailee Dayon recorded 25 digs, five assists and three service points to help lead the Cardinals (2-0). Zeeyah Jacobsen, a senior, registered four kills, eight service points and one block, while freshman Beatriz Lisboa da Cunha de Freitas totaled four kills, four digs, 12 assists and seven service points for victorious Greenwich, which defeated Glastonbury for the 2025 CIAC Class LL state tournament championship, 3-0.

Greenwich is also coming off a 2025 season in which it won the FCIAC Tournament championship, topping Fairfield Ludlowe, 3-1, in the title match. Coached by Marianna Linnehan, the Cardinals rolled to a record of 25-1 last season en route to winning their fourth CIAC Class LL state championship and fourth FCIAC title.

Also in their victory against McMahon on Sept. 10th, senior captain Victoria Sullivan tallied 15 assists, seven digs and seven service points to help power the Cardinals. Up next for Greenwich is a home match against Fairfield Ludlowe tomorrow (Sept. 16) at 4:30 p.m.
