Greenwich boys tennis team tops Ridgefield, Stamford, improves to 11-0; Cardinals volleyball team defeated by FCIAC foes New Canaan, Westhill

Two more matches this week for Greenwich High School’s boys tennis team meant two more victories.

The Cardinal kept their perfect season intact, defeating Ridgefield on Thursday and Stamford on Tuesday. The wins raised the defending Class LL and FCIAC champion Cardinals’ record to 11-0.

Against Ridgefield this past Thursday at GHS, the Cardinals were victorious, 5-2. Manuel Galli Specos won his match at second singles for the Cardinals against Ridgefield, 6-0, 6-0.

Matthew Hunt won in straight sets for Greenwich at third singles, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles action, Greenwich won all three matches against Ridgefield.

Harrison Wolfe and Rohan Mittal were victorious at No. 1 doubles for Greenwich, 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, Ishan Ambastha and Nicholas Frumin posted a 6-1, 6-0 win for the Cardinals over the Tigers. Pierre August/Will Neuenfeldt swept to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at third doubles.

Greenwich swept to a 7-0 win over host Stamford on Tuesday. Galli Specos was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at No. 1 singles for GHS versus Stamford. Neuenfeldt registered a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles, while Elias Orrell won in straight sets at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. Owen Kwon was perfect at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, Wolfe/Mittal took their match at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0. Ambastha/Lee (No. 2) and Sowter/August (No. 3) also won their matches 6-0, 6-0.

Greenwich plays again Monday when it hosts FCIAC opponent Norwalk High School.

Greenwich High boys volleyball

The Cardinals boys volleyball team lost their matches this week against New Canaan and Westhill by 3-0 scores.

Greenwich lost to New Canaan on Saturday, 25-23, 25-19, 25-15. James Kovac recorded 10 digs, nine kills and one assist for Greenwich. Keito Fukushima had seven digs and 15 assists, while Santiago Romero posted 10 digs for the Cardinals.

Against Westhill, GHS dropped 25-11, 25-13, 25-20. Kovac had eight digs, five kills and one ace for the Cards. Fukushima added four digs and 10 assists for Greenwich, which visits Darien on Monday.
