Sacred Heart Greenwich’s undefeated track and field team finished first in the team standings at a recent meet with FAA foes Greenwich Academy and Hopkins School at Hopkins in New Haven.
Four school records were achieved during the meet, which saw the Tigers total 112.5 team points. Greenwich Academy scored 82.5 team points, followed by Hopkins (53). Junior Justine Hounsell posted a school-record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.89 seconds.
Hounsell also broke a school record in the 400-meter dash (57.26). Chelsea Hyland, a junior, established a Sacred Heart record in the 100-meter high hurdles, clocking in at 18.06. Senior Alana Frederick’s performance in the javelin was also a school record (83-01).
At the same meet held this past Saturday, sophomore Audrey Ebeling finished first in the 3,200-meter run with a personal-record time of 11:48.82. Ebeling also placed second in the 1,600-meter event (5:26.38, personal-record).
Helena Randolph, a freshman, was fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a personal-record time of 5:29. With the victories, the Tigers upped their record to 8-0, heading into their final meet of the season this Saturday at Brunswick School.
LACROSSE
Sacred Heart was defeated by visiting Summit High School from New Jersey in a non-league lacrosse game on Monday. Summit registered a 13-9 win over the Tigers.
Fiona Lewis paced Sacred Heart’s offense, recording a hat trick with one assist. Hannah Dempsey and Kelly Haggerty each tallied twice for the Tigers, who also received one goal and two assists from Grace Lillis.
Kaitlin Robinson added one goal and Franny O’Brien assisted on two goals for Sacred Heart, which hosts rival Greenwich Academy Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Sacred Heart then plays host to Ridgefield on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
