
The Greenwich High School girls tennis team capped its regular season with a 7-0 road win against Stamford on Tuesday. With the victory, the Cardinals finished their regular season with a record of 9-6.
They will compete in the first round of the FCIAC Tournament on Friday at 4 p.m. At first singles Tuesday, Greenwich sophomore Ivanna Diez de Bonilla edged Stamford sophomore Sophia Rhazali, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 7-5, in a match that lasted three-and-a-half hours.
Kyra Dybas, a freshman, was a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Stamford freshman Theodora Dosoftei, at second singles. Greenwich freshman Malena Schraa was victorious at third singles, winning the first set 6-0. Schraa’s opponent retired in the second set.
At fourth singles, Cardinals junior co-captain Courteney Sheets posted a 6-1, 6-1 win against the Knights’ Nathaly Herrera, a senior. In doubles competition, Greenwich senior co-captain Abby Shropshire and sophomore Julia Tamis registered a 6-0, 6-3 win against senior Abby Guttman and sophomore Nora Amsellem at the No. 1 spot.
Senior Kira Popa and sophomore Emily Weinstein were victorious for the Cards at third doubles, 6-0, 6-1. Second doubles saw sophomores Mei McGuiness and Valentina Rivano notch a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
