Greenwich Academy’s field hockey team was edged by host Hotchkiss School, 1-0, in overtime in an intense game held on Saturday.
“Hotchkiss is a solid team with strong kids,” Greenwich Academy coach Jamie Brower said. “I was pleased with our grit and fitness, given the adversity of playing at Hotchkiss.”
GA took seven penalty corners and posted seven shots on goal, while Hotchkiss drew 11 penalty corners. Hotchkiss scored the game-winning goal at the 6:46 mark of overtime, following four quarters of back-and-forth action.
“We could have executed our corners better both on attack and defense,” Brower said.
Greenwich Academy has competed against Hotchkiss in the NESPAC Tournament several seasons in the past.
“We hope to get to see them again,” Brower said.
Ellie Volpe made 13 saves for Greenwich Academy, which received standout defensive play from Ellie Johnson, J.P Pittignano and Elizabeth Dale.
Greenwich Academy hosts St. Luke’s today at 4:15 p.m., then plays visiting Taft School on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
